Visiting the
San Clemente Area
Things to do in the San Clemente, Orange County,
& Southern California Area
San Clemente is one of the most exciting cities in Orange County.  There are beautiful beaches just waiting for your to explore.  These are great beaches for surfing, swimming, fishing, or just walking on the beach.  Orange County is also full of great hiking and jogging trails.  One of the books that we have really enjoyed to help us discover some great areas to explore is Jerry Schad's Afoot and Afield Orange County.  This not only includes great beach walks but also some great hikes in the back country.
Legoland California is located in Carlsbad and provides great family entertainment.  There are always new and exciting things happening at Legoland.  There are more than 50 super rides, shows and attractions for the whole family.  You can't miss the bright red welcoming dinosaur, Bronte, standing nine feet tall and 34 feet long from his nose to the tip of his tail, made completely from LEGO® bricks!  We recommend the Legoland Guidebook to help you and your famil enjoy the park to the fullest amount possible.

Many timeshare resorts have bicycles available for your use.  You can also bring your own.  The San Clemente area offers lots of great bicycling paths including along the beach.  We also like to carry our bikes down to Dana Harbor area for all the paths down there.  We have found the book Cycling Orange County very helpful for giving us ideas of where to bike.

There are lots of great dining locations in San Clemente.  We haven't had the chance to dine at the newly remodeled Adeles at the San Clemente Inn but we are hearing good things.  Our favorite is the Fisherman's restaurant on the pier.  Another favorite is The Blue Danube for old country elegance.  There are many restaurants in the area and we recomend the Zagat for finding great places to dine.

The Temecula wine country is only about one hour away for San Clemente.  This is beautiful country to explore and will remind you of Napa and Sonoma.  Many of the Wineries have restaurants on site.  The Temecula Wineries book will help you find that special place to visit.  Many of the timeshare resorts have bus tours to the area so that you do not have to drive.

Disneyland is only a little more than an forty minutes up the road.  Many families drive from San Clemente to Anaheim to enjoy a day at the Magic Kingdom while they are spending their week in the family timeshare.  Disneyland will never be the same for you after reading Disneyland's Hidden Mickeys.  This is a great way to add to your enjoyment of the park.

Catching the train is very convenient in San Clemente.  You can ride the train to San Diego. Or you can ride Amtrak or Metrolink to Anaheim to see the Angels play (stops right at Stadium) or to Los Angeles to see the Dodgers play (there is a free shuttle at Union Station).

Be sure and visit Mission San Juan Capistrano - the mission was founded more than two hundred years ago as the 7th of 21 missions statewide, and one with a chapel still standing where Fr. Serra once celebrated Mass. Today it is a monument to California's multi-cultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican and European heritage. Originally built as a self sufficient community by Spanish Padres and Indians, the Mission was a center for agriculture, industry, education and religion.
